Here, guitar I plays the chords, while guitar II plays the cello part (on the A, D and G strings) and the bass part (on the E and A strings). Try to play it so that the two parts sound distinct (eg. make the bass notes muddy/dull by using the side of your thumb, while playing the cello melody crisply using your fingernails).
